Mission and Vision

At the Cooneen/Coonian Community Development Association, our mission is to strengthen community ties and foster a sense of belonging among the residents of this rural region in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Our vision is to create a vibrant and united community where everyone feels valued and supported. We aim to achieve this through a range of social, educational, and recreational activities that improve the lives of individuals in the area.

History

The Cooneen/Coonian Community Development Association has a rich history of serving the community. Established in 2005, we have since played a pivotal role in improving the wellbeing and quality of life for residents. Key milestones include the successful restoration and repurposing of a disused primary school and Catholic church, which are now centers of community pride and gathering. We have also formed strategic partnerships with notable organizations to enhance our impact and reach.

Committee Members:

Our organization is led by a dedicated committee whose members bring diverse skills and expertise. Lucy Johnson serves as the Chairperson, overseeing the overall operation of our nonprofit. Mark Anderson is our Secretary, responsible for the administration and coordination of activities. Mary Thompson and Liam Hughes are committee members who contribute valuable insights and guidance to our initiatives. Together, our committee ensures that the community’s needs and aspirations are met.

Membership is open to all residents of the Cooneen and Coonian area, and there is a small annual membership fee to help support our activities. By becoming a member, you not only gain access to all of our programs and initiatives but also have the opportunity to shape the direction of our association through voting rights at our Annual General Meetings.

We believe that everyone has unique skills and talents that can contribute to our mission of community development. While certain tasks may require specific qualifications, such as first aid certification for assisting with the organized walks, most volunteering opportunities do not have any strict requirements. We welcome individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are enthusiastic about making a positive impact in our community.
